06-Sep-2008 7:43 AM

Bureau of Meteorology Warning

For people in the Hunter, Mid North Coast and Sydney Metropolitan areas.

Synoptic Situation: 3:00 am EST Saturday. A low just off Port Stephens is expected to move a little further to the south this morning, then slowly away to the east/northeast later in the day. Wind gusts of around 90 km/h have been recorded this morning at Norah Head on the Central Coast and Nobby's Head at Newcastle.

Gale force, damaging southerly winds with mean speeds of 65 km/h and gusts in excess of 90 km/h are expected to continue along the Hunter coast for much of Saturday. Gale force winds are also possible for coastal Sydney today and gale force southwesterly winds may develop in southern parts of the Mid North Coast during the afternoon.

Further heavy rain may leading to localised flooding in the Hunter district today, easing later. Further moderate to heavy rain is also expected for Sydney where a Road Weather Alert is current.

Minor to moderate Flood Warnings have been issued for the Bellinger, Orara, Hastings, and Patterson and Williams rivers. A Flood Watch is current for the Manning River. Dangerous surf conditions are expected throughout Saturday.
