NSW Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Damaging Winds

For people in the LOWER WESTERN and parts of the RIVERINA and UPPER WESTERN Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:09 pm Saturday, 6 March 2010.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Deniliquin, Hay, Wilcannia, Wentworth, Ivanhoe, Menindee and Balranald.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* secure any loose objects in the vicinity of your home.
* keep away from creeks and drains.
* do not drive vehicles through flooded areas.
* stay indoors if possible.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* if you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees
* listen to the radio for storm updates
* switch off your computer and electrical appliances

The next warning is due to be issued by 6:45 pm.
