Synoptic Situation:
An intense area of low pressure currently southwest of Tasmania is expected to
continue moving slowly eastward, passing just south of the state with a vigorous
westerly stream increasing during the morning.

Westerly winds strong enough to bring down some tree branches and power lines
are expected over all Tasmania from around 6am Friday. The maximum wind speed is
expected to be in the order of 110km/h.

Recent Events:
Winds in the last few hours have gusted to 102km/h at Cape Grim, 98km/h at
Strahan and 81km/h at Devonport and Swan Island.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should secure loose outside
