the Southern Tablelands, Central Tablelands, Illawarra, and Alpine areas of the Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and ACT above 1200 metres.

Synoptic Situation: 9:00 pm EST Tuesday
A strong cold front will cross southeast New South Wales tonight and early Wednesday morning. A strong to gale force west to northwest airstream will develop ahead of this system before winds tend west to southwesterly and ease during Wednesday morning in the wake of the front. Winds are expected to restrengthen late Wednesday as another system approaches.

This is an update of the warning issued at 4:20 pm on Tuesday.

Winds may average 65 km/h with gusts of 90 to 100 km/h in parts of the warning area tonight and early Wednesday morning, particularly exposed, elevated locations. In areas above 1900 metres, winds are expected to average over 80 km/h and peak wind gusts may exceed 125 km/h.

Blizzard conditions are expected tonight and early Wednesday morning above 1200 metres.
Emergency services advise you to keep clear of fallen power lines, stay indoors away from windows and keep children indoors.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that people consider postponing back country travel until conditions improve.
