Note: This Flood Watch is a heads-up for possible future flooding and is
NOT a Flood Warning

Issued at 1:48 pm EST on Thursday 2 September 2010
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

A low pressure system will develop over South Australia on Friday
before moving southeastwards across western Victoria on Saturday to be near
Tasmania Saturday night. During Saturday widespread rain with heavy falls are
forecast, particularly about the ranges. Rainfall totals of 30 to 50 mm with
higher totals of up to around 100 mm are possible over the ranges.

The North East catchments are wet as a result of rainfall over the past month
when minor to moderate flooding was experienced in the Kiewa and Ovens and King
catchments. Forecast rainfall combined with wet catchment conditions is
expected to cause renewed stream rises with the possibility of
minor to moderate flooding developing over the North East catchments late
Saturday into Sunday. Major flooding may develop if rainfall is in the upper
ranges of the forecast.

The Bureau is monitoring the situation and will issue catchment specific
warnings if and when required.

In the interests of community safety the SES suggests following precautions:
* Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
* Don't allow children to play in floodwater,
* Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and
* Keep well clear of fallen power lines

Flood warnings, river and rainfall data is available here.
