Issued at 3:05 pm EST on Thursday 2 September 2010
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office
A low pressure system will develop over South Australia on Friday
before moving southeastwards across western Victoria on Saturday to be near
Tasmania Saturday night. During Saturday widespread rain with heavy falls of 25
to 50 mm are forecast.
The North West catchments are wet as a result of rainfall over the past month
when significant stream rises and minor flooding was experienced in the
Campaspe, Loddon and Wimmera catchments. Forecast rainfall combined with wet
catchment conditions is expected to cause renewed stream rises with the
possibility of minor flooding developing over the North West catchments during
Saturday.
The Bureau is monitoring the situation and will issue catchment specific
warnings if and when required.
In the interests of community safety the SES suggests following precautions:
* Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
* Don't allow children to play in floodwater,
* Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and
* Keep well clear of fallen power lines
Contact the SES on 132 500, if emergency assistance is required.
