A bush fire is burning near the Waterfall Way, Wollomombi. The fire has burnt out more than 60 hectares and is being controlled.

Current Situation

The fire is burning along the Waterfall Way, which is currently closed to all but residents due to firefighting operations.

Fire activity is increasing across the fireground.

Firefighters are working to contain the fire ahead of forecast gusty westerly winds and low humidity today. There is a very high fire danger today and a TOTAL FIRE BAN is in force.

Water bombing aircraft and heavy plant will support operations throughout the day, as we attempt close containment should fire behaviour and weather conditions allow. Contingency containment lines are being developed and will be implemented as required. The increased winds and low humidity is likely continue throughout the weekend, therefore people in the vicinity of the fires should keep up to date with the situation as conditions can change quickly. The forecast weather conditions are conducive to spot fire activity.

Residents in the Waterfall Way area east of the fire are advised to enact your bush fire survival plan.

If your plan is to leave, or you are not prepared, leave early.

Well prepared and actively defended homes can offer safety during the fire.
