TASMAN LOW BRINGING LARGE WAVES AND STRONG WINDS TO NSW
COAST
A deep and complex low pressure system over the Tasman Sea is
bringing large southerly surf and strong winds to exposed parts of
the New South Wales coastline. This low is expected to linger in
the region over the next few days before slowly moving away to the
east.
DAMAGING SURF CONDITIONS, with waves exceeding 5 metres in the
surf zone, are likely for exposed coastal areas of the South Coast,
Illawarra, Sydney Metropolitan, Hunter and Mid North Coast
districts on Sunday. For areas along the South Coast district,
conditions are expected to gradually ease during the day, however
are expected to remain dangerous into Monday for Sydney, Illawarra
and Hunter coastlines.
These conditions may produce localised damage and coastal erosion
to these areas. Coastal locations exposed to a southerly swell will
be most susceptible. Beach conditions in these areas could be
dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf
exposed areas.
A separate warning for Hazardous Surf Conditions is also current
for the New South Wales coast.
Locations which may be affected include Port Macquarie, Newcastle,
The Entrance, Sydney, Wollongong, Ulladulla.
DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess
of 90 km/h are possible along the coastal fringe between Ulladulla
and Port Stephens, including parts of Wollongong, Sydney and
Newcastle, from Sunday morning until Sunday evening.
Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Gosford,
Sydney, Wollongong, Huskisson and Ulladulla.
