HEAVY RAIN CONTINUING ABOUT NORTHERN PARTS OF THE COAST.

SYNOPTIC SITUATION:
A low pressure system has developed within a trough off the far southern QLD and northern NSW coasts. This system is generating showers, heavy at times.

HEAVY RAIN and THUNDERSTORMS which may lead to FLASH FLOODING are forecast to affect the Northern Rivers and northern parts of the Mid North Coast for the remainder of today. During Tuesday heavy rainfall is expected to ease over the Mid North Coast as the system shifts northward.

Rainfall totals in excess of 150 mm have fallen in the 48 hours to 9am today over these districts. Up to 200 mm further may fall in parts of the Northern Rivers district over the next two days. Rainfall observations may be accessed at: www.bom.gov.au/nsw/flood/

Locations which may be affected include Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Woolgoolga, Sawtell and Dorrigo.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
