Weather Situation: At 14:20 CST severe thunderstorms were detected in satellite and RADAR imagery over southern Districts, associated with a trough moving east into the area from Western Australia drawing warm and humid air into central Australia. Severe thunderstorms are now developing around Alice Springs. Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in the Barkly District including Tennant Creek in the next two hours.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Alice Springs, Yulara, Kaltukatjara, Tennant Creek, Ali Curung, Arltunga, Ti Tree, Kulgera and Watarrka.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* secure loose outside objects
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
