MINOR FLOODING IS LIKELY FROM FRIDAY NIGHT, ISOLATED MODERATE
FLOODING POSSIBLE
A surface trough located just offshore of the northeast tropical
coast is forecast to deepen and remain slow moving during Friday,
producing heavy rainfall and areas of flooding over the Flood Watch
area. The heaviest rainfall is expected to contract to the north
during Saturday.
The risk of heavy rainfall and flooding south from Ingham has now
eased although showers will continue across the weekend.
Catchments are slowly wetting up from rainfall over the past few
days. with small river level rises occurring in areas close to the
coast.
Areas of minor flooding are likely from Friday night and into
Saturday, with isolated moderate flooding possible where the
heaviest rainfall occurs.
Localised flooding and disruption to transport routes in the area
is likely.
A Severe weather Warning is current for heavy rainfall for parts
of the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower
Burdekin Forecast Districts.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Daintree River
Mossman River
Barron River
Mulgrave and Russell Rivers
Johnstone River
Tully River
Murray River
Herbert River
Flooding is no longer expected in the following catchments: Black
River, Ross and Bohle Rivers, Haughton River, Burdekin River to
Burdekin Falls Dam, Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam, Belyando and
Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam, Burdekin River downstream of
Burdekin Falls Dam, Don and Proserpine Rivers.
