Gusty thunderstorms in the southwest.
Weather Situation: A humid, hot and unstable airmass is combining
with an approaching upper level disturbance to produce severe
thunderstorms today across southwestern parts of the state.
Thunderstorms are expected to be slow moving with possible damaging
wind gusts. Thunderstorm activity is expected to increase
throughout the afternoon and early evening.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the
warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be
affected include Birdsville, Windorah, Boulia, Bedourie, Orientos
and Ballera.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
