Weather Situation:

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:10 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Ipswich, Beenleigh, Logan City and Nambour. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Brisbane CBD, Cleveland and Noosa Heads by 6:40 pm and Strathpine, Redcliffe and the area north of Noosa Heads by 7:10 pm.

Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.

Golf to tennis ball sized hail was reproted south of Boonah. Reports of trees down between Boonah and Beaudesert. 90km/hr wind gust recordered at Amberley.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
