The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:40 pm, very dangerous
thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Brisbane
Airport, Nudgee and Manly. These thunderstorms are moving towards
the east to northeast. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to
affect southern waters of Moreton Bay and Mud Island by 6:10 pm and
southern Moreton Island, Tangalooma and northern Moreton Island by
6:40 pm.
Other severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near
Mudgeeraba, Nerang, Tweed Heads(NSW), Kooralbyn and Numinbah
Valley. They are forecast to affect Coolangatta, Beaudesert and
Southport by 6:10 pm and Aratula, Mount Tamborine and Coomera by
6:40 pm.
Large, possibly giant hailstones and damaging winds are
likely.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
