INTENSE THUNDERSTORM RAINFALL IN THE GYMPIE AREA.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 11:05 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Gympie and the area northeast of Gympie. These thunderstorms are slow moving. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect the area south of Gympie, the ranges between Gympie and Murgon and the area southeast of Gympie by 11:35 pm and Amamoor and the Amamoor Range northwest of Kenilworth by 12:05 am.

Intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding is likely.

Public reports of rainfall in excess of 80mm in 1 hour to 11pm to the northeast of Gympie

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
