The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:25 pm, very dangerous
thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Strathpine
and Redcliffe. These thunderstorms are moving towards the west.
Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Brisbane CBD,
the D'Aguilar Ranges and Dayboro by 2:55 pm and southern Lake
Wivenhoe, Burpengary and Beachmere by 3:25 pm.
Intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening
flash flooding is likely.
Heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris
across roads.
Broadly, 3-hourly accumulations of 120-170mm have recently been
observed across Brisbane's north and west.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
