By the Bureau of Meteorology, Hobart.

A flood watch has been issued for all northern river basins.

A moist northeasterly flow will develop over Tasmania on Saturday with a trough expected to move over the state later in the day. These conditions suggest a very high chance of rain in the north of Tasmania, most likely in the morning and afternoon of Saturday.

Around 40-80mm of rainfall is expected between Smithton and Devonport and in the north east highlands, with 20-40mm expected elsewhere over the northern river basins.

Minor flooding may develop in some catchments in the north of the State from late Saturday onwards. Further catchment specific warnings will be issued if and when required.

Strong and dangerous flows are possible in small creeks and low lying areas in

locations that receive heavy rainfall.

Note: This Flood Watch is a "heads up" for possible future flooding and is NOT a Flood Warning. The Bureau of Meteorology does not provide a flood warning service for all of the catchments covered by this flood watch.
