Localised minor flooding is possible in some northern river catchments during Saturday, based on forecast rainfall overnight Friday.

A complex low pressure system is expected to develop across Bass Strait and northern Tasmania and bring locally heavy rainfall to northern catchments overnight Friday into Saturday.

Catchments are wet and river levels remain elevated in some northern rivers from recent flooding.

Rainfall totals of 10-30 mm are forecast from overnight Friday into Saturday with higher totals possible in the tiers and elevated areas.

River rises are expected with the forecast rainfall, and minor flooding is possible at some locations during Saturday. Localised flooding is also expected in areas that receive heavy rainfall.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

North Esk River

Meander River

Macquarie River
