DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS LATE THIS EVENING AND EARLY TOMORROW

Weather Situation: A vigorous cold front crosses Tasmania Friday morning, directing a strong northwesterly airstream over the state as it approaches.

DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around of 100 km/h are expected around parts of eastern and central Tasmania late this evening and early Friday morning. Wind gusts are expected to ease to below 100 km/h by sunrise Friday morning.

Locations which may be affected include Campbell Town, Swansea, Bicheno, Orford, Fingal and Scamander.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
