DAMAGING WINDS ABOUT THE NORTH COAST AND BASS STRAIT ISLANDS TONIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING

Weather Situation: A vigorous cold front will sweep across Tasmania overnight tonight, with strong and gusty northwesterly winds ahead of it, followed by a cold west to southwesterly change early on Saturday morning.

DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 100 km/h possible about northern coastal regions of Tasmania and the Bass Strait Islands late Friday evening and overnight into Saturday morning.

Winds are expected to tend west to southwesterly and ease during Saturday morning except over King Island.

Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Currie, George Town, Whitemark and Bridport.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
