STRONG NORTHWESTERLY WINDS ABOUT NORTHEAST AND SOUTHWEST TASMANIA
DURING SUNDAY
Weather Situation:
A cold front crosses Tasmania this evening with northwesterly
winds to follow. The winds then become strong early Sunday as a low
pressure centre approaches southwest Tasmania. Winds begin to ease
Sunday evening.
DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak
gusts around 100 km/h, are expected across parts of northeast
Tasmania, as well as the far south and southwest, during
Sunday.
The damaging winds develop early Sunday and are expected to
contract to the Furneaux Islands during Sunday evening. Damaging
winds then clear the Furneaux group early Monday.
Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Scottsdale,
Whitemark, Geeveston, Dover and Huonville.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play
equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to
TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when
driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further
advice.
