Minor flooding may develop in far East Gippsland catchments from overnight Saturday into Sunday, depending on the position of a low.

A low pressure system will develop off the south coast of NSW on Saturday. This low is expected to move slowly south during Sunday.

Catchments in East Gippsland are relatively wet from rainfall over the last couple of weeks.

Rainfall totals of 10-20 mm are forecast for East Gippsland for Saturday, with isolated higher totals up to 40 mm in the far east. Additional 5-15 mm forecast for Sunday. Higher totals are possible depending on the position of the low.

With the forecast rainfall, river rises are expected. With higher possible totals, minor flooding may develop in the flood watch area from overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Bemm, Cann and Genoa Rivers

Snowy River

The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings as required.
