Weather Situation:
A cold front crossing the Southern Ocean is moving rapidly eastwards and will pass through Bass Strait tonight.

Northwest to westerly winds about some coastal areas of Victoria are expected to increase to 60 to 70 km/hr tonight with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/hr. Elevated areas including the Otway and Strzelecki Ranges as well as the eastern Alpine areas are also likely to experience similar conditions.

Gradual moderation is expected from the west early Saturday morning.

Locations which may be affected include Warrnambool, Portland, Wonthaggi, Rosebud, Dargo, Tidal River, Yarram, Mt Baw Baw, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller and Omeo.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
