Weather Situation: A cold front to the west is expected to approach the western border tonight then cross the State on Friday.

DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are expected to develop across elevated parts of western Victoria tonight, then extend east during Friday morning.

Winds over Alpine areas of Victoria (above 1000 metres) may gust to 100 km/h during Friday.
Winds are expected to ease over western and central Victoria during Friday afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Ararat, Falls Creek and Mt Buller.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
