Strong northerly winds developing on Sunday.

Weather Situation: A strong cold front will cross Victoria during Sunday afternoon and evening. Northerly winds ahead of the cold front are expected to strengthen during the morning.

DAMAGING NORTHERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, are expected to develop over western parts of the warning area early SUNDAY morning and then extend over remaining parts of the warning area by midday SUNDAY. Only elevated parts of the warning area (above 600 metres) will be affected.

About the Alpine peaks (above 1500 metres), wind gusts may reach up to 110 km/h during SUNDAY afternoon. Blizzards are likely about the Alpine region on SUNDAY night.

Winds are expected to generally ease from the west during SUNDAY afternoon, with only localised damaging wind gusts still possible with the passage of the cold front later in the day.

Locations which may be affected include the Grampians, Mt Baw Baw, Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek.
