Strong and gusty winds over the southeast during Saturday

Weather Situation: A low pressure system over eastern Bass Strait will move over the Tasman Sea today.

DAMAGING west to southwesterly WINDS, averaging 60 to 80 km/h with peak gusts of 100 km/h are expected over southeastern Victoria today. Gusts may reach 110 km/h over Alpine areas (above 1200 metres) this morning, while gusts to 120 km/h are possible along the far East Gippsland coast. Blizzard conditions are possible about the Alps.

Damaging winds are expected to contract to the far southeast coast by this evening.

Locations which may be affected include Morwell, Traralgon, Sale, Moe, Bairnsdale and Orbost.

Gabo Island - 106 km/h at 10:11am

Mt William - 89 km/h at 9:13am

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
