For people in the
Northern Country,
North Central and parts of the
Wimmera Forecast Districts.

Issued at 11:06 pm Thursday, 20 April 2017.

A surface and upper level trough will move into western Victoria on Friday morning and move only slowly eastwards across the State on Friday, reaching central districts during the evening and then weakening.

Rain and isolated thunderstorms will develop late Thursday night and early Friday morning over the Mallee, Wimmera and Southwest districts and extend into the Northern Country and North Central districts during Friday morning.

HEAVY RAIN which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible, particularly with thunderstorms and slow moving areas of rain. 24 hour rainfall totals of 25 to 50mm are forecast on Friday with isolated higher falls of 70 to 90mm possible, particularly about northern slopes of the divide.

Locations which may be affected include Mildura, Bendigo, Shepparton, Seymour, Maryborough and Castlemaine.

49mm has been recorded at Walpeup in the Mallee since 9am Thursday morning.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don't walk, ride or drive through flood water;
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks;
* Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads;
