Severe thunderstorms have developed in southern parts of the state.

Weather Situation: A surface trough in the south of the state combines with an upper trough to promote severe thunderstorm activity this afternoon and evening.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Alice Springs, Yuendumu, Ali Curung, Arltunga, Ti Tree and Papunya.

A 93 km/h gust was recorded at Wulungurra Airport at 3:44pm

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* secure loose outside objects
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
