MINOR TO MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE IN THE CENTRAL WEST AND SOUTH
WEST FROM LATE THURSDAY
A series of troughs and a cold front are causing vigorous winds
across southeast NSW, as well as the potential for heavy rainfall
during Thursday and into Friday before easing as the front will
continues offshore. This may cause minor to moderate flooding along
the Castlereagh, Bell, Macquarie, Belubula, Bogan and Queanbeyan
Rivers, with Moderate to Major flooding possible along the Lachlan,
Tumut and Murrumbidgee Rivers from late Thursday.
Renewed flooding is possible along the Bogan and Lachlan Rivers
where flood warnings are current.
A Flood Watch is current in Victoria for the Upper Murray
River.
A Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds and heavy rainfall is
current for the Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands
and parts of Hunter, South Coast, North West Slopes and Plains,
Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains,
Australian Capital Territory and Metropolitan Forecast
Districts.
Soil moisture conditions are average to wet.
The Bureau is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue
further catchment specific warnings if and when required.
The weather system is expected to cause flooding for the
catchments listed from late Thursday. Flood Classes (minor,
moderate, major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau
provides a flood warning service.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Castlereagh River minor flooding
Macquarie River to Bathurst minor flooding
Orange, Molong and Bell River minor to moderate flooding
Turon and Macquarie Rivers to Burrendong Dam minor flooding
Macquarie River d/s Burrendong Dam minor to moderate
flooding
Bogan River minor flooding
Lachlan River to Cotton's Weir minor to major flooding
Belubula River minor to moderate flooding
Mandagery Creek minor flooding
Tumut River moderate to major flooding
Murrumbidgee River to Wagga Wagga minor to major flooding
Queanbeyan and Molonglo Rivers minor flooding
Upper Murray and Mitta Mitta Rivers
Flood Warnings are current for the following catchments: Bogan,
Lachlan, Narran and Darling Rivers

This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers
and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings
and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding
develop.
Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to
be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau
of Meteorology provides a flood warning service.
Severe Weather Warnings will be issued or updated if very heavy
rain is forecast or observed.
