Damaging southwesterly wind gusts developing from Saturday morning
across most of Tasmania.
Weather Situation: A strong southwesterly airstream continues
across Tasmania throughout Saturday leading to a risk of damaging
wind gusts from late morning and peaking in the late afternoon and
evening on Saturday. Winds are expected to decrease during Sunday
morning as a trough moves away to the east.
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with gusts in excess of 100
km/h are possible over most of Tasmania including the Central
Plateau, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, Midlands, East Coast,
Furneaux Islands and parts of the North West Coast, Central North,
North East and Western districts. Winds are expected to potentially
reach warning thresholds from late morning onwards, with the most
likely period for damaging winds extending from late afternoon into
the evening on Saturday, with winds gradually easing during Sunday
morning.
Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Burnie,
Swansea, New Norfolk, Hobart and Dover.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play
equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to
TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when
driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further
advice.
