East Coast, North West Coast, Central Plateau, Midlands and parts
of Western, North East and Central North Forecast Districts.

Damaging southwesterly wind gusts across most of Tasmania.
Weather Situation: A strong southwesterly airstream will continue
across Tasmania throughout the remainder of today resulting in a
risk of damaging wind gusts as a cold front moves through. Winds
are expected to decrease during Sunday morning as the front moves
away to the east.
DAMAGING SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with gusts in
excess of 100 km/h are possible over most of Tasmania today. Winds
are expected to gradually ease during Sunday morning.
Locally DAMAGING SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 70 to 80 km/h with
gusts around 110-120 km/h are also possible during this time, for
areas north of the Central Plateau, including Sheffield and
Deloraine.
Locations which may be affected include Hobart, Devonport, Burnie,
Oatlands, Bothwell, Swansea, Bicheno, Orford, New Norfolk,
Geeveston and Dover.
Significant wind gust observations today (Saturday) include:
135 km/h at Tasman Island at 4:42 pm.
130 km/h at Maatsuyker Island at 3:27 am.
119 km/h at Hartz Mountain at 4:39 pm.
115 km/h at Cape Bruny at 2:42 pm.
111 km/h at Sheffield School Farm at 3 pm.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play
equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to
TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when
driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further
advice.
