Councils

EWN ALERT offers a unique opportunity for councils to communicate ‘on time’ and ‘on target’ notices to the community.

Most communications between council and the community today rely on box drop or newspaper advertisements supplemented at times by radio. Until now this has been the most cost effective way to pass important community messages on to the public. EWN ALERT™ can provide council management a new tool to pass on information at no cost directly to those members of the public that need it.

EWN ALERT™ will provide council management the ability to instantly broadcast alerts and notifications to individual homes, streets, zones or any other grouping mechanism they might have prescribed. In addition they can use visual mapping devices to select specific areas. These can be sent via:

  • Desktop ALERT™
  • Mobile (SMS generally)
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Messaging

Council administrators are not required to install any software or hardware or spend a cent. The community registers to the system through Desktop ALERT™. This is provided free of charge. Desktop ALERT™ also carries emergency alerts and notifications issued by BOM, SES, police and other emergency providers. At all times users of Desktop ALERT™ control how, when and from whom they wish to receive notifications from. This is a major step forwards in protecting families and the community and is the first of its kind in the world.

EWN ALERT is designed to:

  • Save and protect lives
  • Improve personal and community security
  • Protect property
  • Better manage community and group communications, and
  • Always be free to schools, the public and emergency services

Who can send ALERTS?

A management console has already been created for your council. If your council wishes access to this, the councils senior administrator will be authenticated and provided secure access to your own ALERT system. From there the Administrator can register other administrators within their network (council) and apply permissions to what groups and message types they can send.

Security

It is anticipated that most homes will register to the ALERT system. Local administrators to the system such as SES and police will all be authenticated and only able to access those regions or districts managed by their LAC (Local Area Command). Only those administrators ‘known’ to the system can use it.

In the majority of cases the information registered to ALERT is the same as listed in the white pages. ALERT lists are not distributed and cannot be downloaded.

Special Needs

There may be special circumstances where a household might register a disability into the system. This means in time of emergency the responding agency is better prepared, an event that could save lives. Likewise we hope to incorporate other information such as:

  • Pools (for fire fighting)
  • Difficult driveways/geography
  • Number of people in household
  • Pets

Access.

Administrators can securely access the system from any computer connected to the Internet. This means that if required an Administrator can send messages from their home computer if required. In times of emergencies this saves valuable time in broadcasting ALERTS.

Key features of the EWN

  • Multi-channel. EM’s can select which channels they wish to send notifications through. This currently includes Desktop ALERT™, SMS, phone and email. Other channels can be added.
  • Geographic. Among other selection modes, EM’s can use maps to geographically select the area they want to send a notification to.
  • Alert Status. An alert status, yellow, orange or green can be assigned to notifications.
  • Scheduling: ability to determine precisely when a communication will appear. You can choose to send a message immediately, at a predesignated time, or chronologically from the time the agent was installed.
  • Filtering: EWN can select which communications a person is to receive according to declared preferences assigned in Desktop ALERT™.
  • Reporting: not only can we tell you whether a message was displayed, we can log whether a consumer saw the message and at what time.

    Key benefits of EWN
  • Free. There is no cost to emergency services or the public.
  • No setup. Authorised, or authenticated emergency personnel can access the system from any computer connected to the internet. There is no software to install.
  • Revenue.  Alerts and warnings can carry messages from local or national sponsors at the footer of the page.
  • Visible: EWN messages take priority on the computer, whether the user is on or offline. EWN delivers messages directly to the desktop, in front of all other applications. Content can include text, pictures and in following versions audio.
  • Fast: faster to create and more effective than any other delivery or notification system.
  • Targeted: enabling logical population groupings without having to build and maintain expensive databases.
  • Measurable: no estimates, surveys or guess work – you will know precisely how many people received the notification, and when.
  • Fully controllable: “Software as a Service” gives emergency management complete control of alerts and warning procedures without the overhead of IT support and maintenance.
