Initial Flood Watch for parts of the Barkly and Carpentaria Coastal Rivers

Issued at 1:46 pm ACST on Monday 22 December 2025 Flood Watch Number: 1

FLOODING POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE BARKLY AND CARPENTARIA COASTAL RIVERS OVER THE COMING DAYS

A trough across the Gregory and northern Barkly Districts is expected to deepen into a monsoon trough from about Wednesday and persist for much of the week, bringing widespread showers and heavy falls to parts of the Barkly and Carpentaria Coastal Rivers.

Catchments are gradually becoming wet following recent rainfall.

Widespread moderate and isolated heavy falls are possible during this week, particularly about the northeast Barkly and Carpentaria coastal catchments.

River and creek level rises, overland flow, and isolated flooding in low-lying areas are possible across many inland parts of the Flood Watch catchments. This is expected to affect many roads over the coming days. Check road conditions before travelling.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Robinson River

Calvert River

Barkly
