Initial Flood Watch for the North West Coastal and Waterhouse Rivers

Issued at 1:49 pm ACST on Thursday 15 January 2026 Flood Watch Number: 1

FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN THE FLOOD WATCH AREA FROM SATURDAY

A trough lies across the base of the Top End. A tropical low south of the Gulf of Carpentaria may drift into the Top End during the weekend and deepen. This could bring widespread falls, some possibly heavy in parts of the Flood Watch area.

Catchments are moderately wet in the Flood Watch area.

River level rises, localised flooding, and overland inundation are possible in parts of the Flood Watch area, which may affect road access. Some communities may become isolated. Check road conditions before travelling.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Moyle River

Katherine River

Daly River above Douglas River

Lower Daly River

Finniss River

Tiwi Islands

Upper Adelaide River

Adelaide River below Adelaide River Town

Mary River

Wildman River

South Alligator River

Waterhouse River
