Number: 2
FLOODING POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE BARKLY AND CARPENTARIA COASTAL
RIVERS OVER THE COMING DAYS
A trough across the Gregory and northern Barkly Districts is
expected to deepen into a monsoon trough from about Wednesday and
persist for much of the week, bringing widespread showers and heavy
falls to parts of the Barkly and Carpentaria Coastal Rivers.
Catchments are becoming wet following recent rainfall.
Widespread moderate and isolated heavy falls are possible during
this week, particularly around the Carpentaria coastal catchments
and the northeast Barkly, including the northern parts of the
Georgina River catchment. Flood impacts are not expected in the
short term along the lower McArthur River.
River and creek level rises, overland flow, and isolated flooding
in low-lying areas are possible across many inland parts of the
Flood Watch catchments. This is expected to affect many roads over
the coming days. Check road conditions before travelling.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
McArthur River (rainfall expected mainly in upper catchment)
Robinson River
Calvert River
Settlement Creek
Nicholson River
Georgina River and Eyre Creek (rainfall expected in northern parts
of
catchment)
Barkly
A Flood Watch is current for parts of North-Western Queensland,
adjacent to the Northern Territory Flood Watch area.
