Issued at 4:43 pm Friday, 9 October 2026.

Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and large hail continue over the southern NT.

Weather Situation: Instability and warm temperatures ahead of a cold front moving eastwards across the south of the NT will lead to the development of scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Strong winds in the upper atmosphere will lend support to some of these storms becoming severe.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Arltunga, Ti Tree, Barrow Creek, Santa Teresa and Simpson District east of Finke.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Lasseter district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

2 cm hailstones reported at Alice Springs around 3:50 pm.
