WIDESPREAD MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS MUCH OF THE STATE, ISOLATED MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE

Tropical Low 29U will cross the coast near Innisfail today, with heavy rainfall possible today about the North Tropical Coast and adjacent interior. The risk of heavy rainfall will spread into the northern interior and Townsville coast later today. As this system decays, there is an increasing risk of widespread heavy rain in central and southeastern Queensland over the weekend and into early next week which may cause significant widespread flooding.

Catchments across northern parts of the Flood Watch area are wet to saturated with recent rainfall. Catchments along the central and southeastern coast, and throughout central Queensland are less wet but will still respond quickly to heavy rainfall.

Widespread minor to moderate riverine flooding is possible across the Flood Watch area, with isolated major flooding a possibility in the areas of heaviest rainfall. Flood impacts are generally possible about the North Tropical Coast, Central Coast, and interior from Friday, moving into the Capricornia and Wide Bay and adjacent interior during Saturday, and then into South East Queensland during Sunday. However, the timing and location of rainfall remains highly uncertain at this stage, and impacts may be possible from as early as Friday anywhere within the Flood Watch area. Rapid river level rises and localised flooding are possible in areas of heavy rainfall. Disruption to transport routes is likely across parts of the Flood Watch area.

Flood warnings are current for the following catchment(s) : Daintree, Mossman, Bloomfield, Norman. Numerous inland flood warnings continue from previous rain events during February. A Severe Weather Warning is current for heavy, locally intense rainfall for parts of the Peninsula, Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.
