For people in parts of Southeast Coast Forecast District.

Issued at 5:34 pm Friday, 18 July 2025.

Severe thunderstorms with large hail and possibly damaging winds approach the coast from the west.

Weather Situation: Unstable conditions over southeastern parts of the state and a weak surface trough in the area has led to the development of isolated severe thunderstorms this afternoon. These storms are moving to the east and northeast and are expected to continue into the early evening.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Brisbane, Caboolture, Ipswich, Cleveland, Lowood, Redcliffe and Samford.

2 cm hailstones were reported near Laidley around 4:00 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
