Severe thunderstorms are occurring in the Upper Brisbane River
Valley.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:45 pm, severe
thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near the area east
of Murgon.
These thunderstorms are moving towards the north.
They are forecast to affect Goomeri by 7:15 pm and the ranges
between Gympie and Murgon and Kilkivan by 7:45 pm.
Large hailstones, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding
and damaging winds are likely.
Kingaham recorded 44mm in the 30 minutes to 5:16pm.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
