Issued at 12:40 pm AEDT on Thursday 9 October 2025 Flood Watch Number: 2

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS MULTIPLE CATCHMENTS FROM FRIDAY

A weak cold front will cross Tasmania during Thursday. This will be followed by another strong cold front during Friday morning.

Moderate to heavy rainfall totals are forecast for the remainder of Thursday and into Friday particularly in the west, north and northeast. Highest rainfall totals will be mostly focused on the higher peaks on the west coast, Central Plateau and southwest lakes.

Catchments across Tasmania are wet following recent rainfall, and catchments may react quickly to further rainfall.

River level rises are likely, and minor flooding is possible across the Flood Watch area from Friday morning.

Localised flooding of rivulets, small creeks and low-lying areas may occur in locations that receive higher rainfall. Isolated heavy rainfall can result in rapid stream rises and strong flows particularly in the west and northeast of the state.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Huon River

Channel Coastal Rivers (South East Cape to Gordon)

Gordon-Franklin Rivers

King-Henty Rivers

Pieman River

Nelson Bay Coastal Rivers

Arthur River

Northwest and Central Coastal Rivers

Mersey River

South Esk River

Ringarooma River

North Coastal Rivers

Flood Warnings are current for the following catchment(s): Derwent, Meander and Nth Esk
