Damaging winds possible with storms over the NE coast this
evening
Weather Situation: a cold front is crossing Tasmania this evening,
with thunderstorms producing brief damaging wind gusts as the front
moves through.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the
warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be
affected include Scottsdale and Bridport.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the North West
Coast district and the warning for this district is
CANCELLED.
94 km/h wind gust recorded at Devonport Airport at 10:33pm
96 km/h wind gust recorded at Smithton Airport at 9:10pm
118 km/h wind gust recorded at Mount Read at 8:39pm
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
