Plateau and Midlands Forecast Districts.

DAMAGING AND LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS DEVELOPING ABOUT PARTS OF
TASMANIA.
Weather Situation: A strong cold front will move eastwards across
the Bight and across Tasmania tonight. This feature will increase
the pressure gradient across the state today leading to the risk of
damaging and locally destructive wind gusts.
Locally DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS with peak gusts of around 125 km/h
are possible over coastal areas of the Central North and North East
districts and northern parts of the East Coast district during the
late afternoon and evening.
Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Bridport, St
Helens and Bicheno.
Strong northwesterly winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING
WIND GUSTS of around 100 km/h are likely over western and southern
districts from this afternoon, extending to the eastern and
northeastern districts during the late afternoon and evening.
Winds are forecast to ease below warning thresholds from the
southwest during Wednesday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Launceston, St
Helens, Swansea, Strahan and Hobart.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play
equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to
TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when
driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further
advice.
