For people in King Island Forecast District.

Issued at 10:39 am Friday, 8 September 2023.

Damaging winds developing over King Island today.

Weather Situation: A strengthening west to southwesterly airstream associated with a deepening complex low pressure system will result in damaging winds for King Island during today. This low will push out into the Tasman Sea overnight into Saturday morning. There is some possibility of a secondary low deepening off the southeast coast of Tasmania late Friday evening into early Saturday, producing a brief burst of stronger southwesterly winds over central and southern parts of the state, however the potential for damaging wind gusts is small at this time.

Locally DAMAGING WINDS averaging between 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely to develop over King Island early this afternoon, easing during the evening.

Subject to the positioning and development of the low pressure system to the south of Tasmania, continued warnings may be required into Saturday morning for the Western Tiers and southern parts of Tasmania.

Locations which may be affected include Currie.
